Why Warrior Angels

The vision behind the art.

Armageddon Warrior AngelWhen you close your eyes and picture an angel in your mind, what do you see? Do you see a very elegant being in a robe spreading his wings or a mighty warrior ready to remove any harm that may come your way? In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with either visual but I myself prefer the latter of the two. You see, I view angels as very powerful beings; I personally view them as warriors ready for battle!

I would like to personally welcome you to Warrior-Angels.com. My name is Gerald Gore and I am the artist responsible for the artwork on this site. I have been an artist all my life but did not discover sculpting until late November 2003. When I first started sculpting I did not place any boundaries on myself, there were no rules so to speak, I just created art that I wanted to see. This was a new and exciting hobby for me so the main goal was to just sculpt and have fun during the process. I have a background in bodybuilding and was a competitive bodybuilder in my late teens and twenties so I naturally incorporated a lot of bodybuilding images into my artwork. Although not always well received I created sculptures of very muscular physiques because that is where my background, interest and roots came from.

My fourth sculpture was a real challenge for me; with about six-weeks experience at this point, I decided to make an angel. I wanted to create something that was unique, I wanted to create a work of art the conveyed a message of power. The problem that I had is that I could not connect with a lot of the Christian art that we see today. Although a lot of the angel artwork that I have seen over the years is very beautiful, I just felt that most of the artwork in itself seemed too passive. For example, I have seen many paintings where Michael is slaying the dragon and the images themselves just seemed forced to me. I really did not feel that Michael was really slaying anything from these paintings. I felt that the paintings were beautiful on a technical level but emotionally I did not find myself attached to the artwork.

To make matters worse, when you look around at our world today and you will see artwork, cartoons, movies and toys that create very powerful images for various demonic creatures. Whether the image is of a demon, devil or some other demonic being they pretty much convey the same message and that message is power! I wanted the same message conveyed with my sculpture. I wanted my sculpture to visually show that angels are very powerful; I wanted to convey a message of strength and security.

Now I knew what I wanted to do, the trick now was figuring out how to do it. Going back to my roots I decided to create an angel with a very muscular physique but I knew that a strong physique alone would not fully convey my message. I decided that my first sculpture was going to be of the Archangel Gabriel blowing the horn for Armageddon. I pictured this mighty angel on a hill blowing a massive horn in one hand while hold a sword in the other. I pictured my angel ready for battle and instantly knew that the angel in my sculpture had to be one that was a warrior. I didn’t want just any warrior; I wanted one that looked like he had been around since the beginning of time.

Over a hundred hours later, I created my first angel. The sculpture is of the mighty Gabriel blowing the trumpet to begin the war to end all wars. With a prehistoric looking trumpet in one hand, a sword in the other, loincloth around the waist and a medieval looking helmet I had created an image that solved my initial problem. I had created an angel that was not only unique but also conveyed a message of strength and power. During my journey I had also created a passion for angels. I enjoy this new take on angels and have created many pieces since my Armageddon sculpture.

This site is a showcase for some of my artwork and also provides an opportunity for you to add some of these pieces to your own home. I am always busy sculpting so enjoy the site and check back frequently for the many new updates to come.

Wishing you and yours all the best,

Gerald Gore
